Meet your teacher
Founder and owner of Flower City Fiddle, Alyssa Rodriguez teaches violin and fiddle lessons for adults and children in Rochester, New York — from complete beginners to advanced players. She studied the Suzuki Violin Method with Carrie Reuning-Hummel at Ithaca College, where she became a certified Suzuki Violin Method instructor in Every Child Can, Pre-Twinkle through Book 4.
Alyssa Rodriguez studied Pre-Twinkle with Alice Kanack and is trained to teach Alice Kanack’s Creative Ability Development (CAD) method “Playing from the Heart.” Alyssa taught at the Kanack School of Musical Artistry for 8 years and now manages her own private studio Flower City Fiddle, where she teaches classical, fiddle, and alternative violin styles including jazz and improvisation.
With over 10 years of teaching experience, Alyssa regularly seeks out professional development in music pedagogy and fiddle music to learn cutting edge teaching methods. She teaches Irish, Scandinavian, and New England (Contra) fiddle styles on violin, fiddle, and nyckelharpa as well as beginner viola and mountain dulcimer lessons.
Flower City Fiddle offers weekly and biweekly private lessons and weekly group classes and is located at 18 Harvard Street inside of Crossbridge Wellness.

“ALYSSA IS A FABULOUS FIDDLE TEACHER. HER VAST EXPERIENCE AND HER MUSICAL PASSION SHINE THROUGH IN HER LESSONS WHICH ARE THOUGHTFUL, ENGAGING AND FUN. SHE LISTENS WELL AND INCORPORATES YOUR PREFERENCES AND ANY GOALS YOU MAY HAVE. SHE IS GREAT AT BOTH SHOWING AND EXPLAINING HER FEEDBACK FOR YOU. I HAD BEEN PLAYING FOR ABOUT A YEAR WHEN I FIRST MET ALYSSA AND MY PLAYING IMPROVED TREMENDOUSLY IN A SHORT TIME.”

“Alyssa in is an amazing and patient teacher, with a broad knowledge of a variety of musical styles. She helped me work through unrelated injuries to transition from playing fiddle to nyckelharpa, which has turned out to be my dream instrument. My day job in video games means I have a lot of repetitive motion injuries, aches, and pains to work through, but she helps me every step of the way. She views the whole musician, not just performance.”
